David Geno made history as the only amateur player in US Open Cup history to score four goals in a game (he scored four in twenty minutes), unfortunately a week later he broke his foot, but made his way out to visit us at ECFC to tell his story and inspire the kids. Watch for him this fall at East Tennessee St U, and hopefully in the MLS in 2014!!!

Congratulations to Marina for being awarded Player of the Week by GoalWA. It is even more deserved as there were significant wins by the other top WPSL teams this last week and Marina stood out with here creative play and great vision, as she contributed to the 7-0 win.
ECFC WPSL are on a roll right now with an emphatic win over Spokane Shine. There is no doubt that coach Niki Taylor has brought together a very talented group of players from around the world. But can we attribute this win to coach Alex Jessup and his unique pre-game warm-up routine for the team. The jury is still out on that one, so to find out how our girls played in the match and the 7 different goal scorers, read the articles by GoalWA and the local Spokane writers.

On June 1st, members and guests met to participate in the Emerald City Poker Shootout, a club fundraising event benefitting the Emerald City FC scholarship fund. The evening was a great success generating several thousand dollars in proceeds.
The big winner of the evening was Andrew Volk, (M98 father), who took first place in the tournament. For his excellent play, Andrew received a night’s accommodations at the Inn at the Market for his prize. Last year’s tournament winner, Jack Swenson, proved that last year was not a fluke as he took second place and received 4 tickets to a Mariners game in the owner’s suite. Rounding out the top three was James Rogers (M97 father) whose prize was a set of 4 tickets to a Mariners game directly behind the M's dugout. Other prizes included a night’s accommodations at the Woodmark Hotel and Spa in Kirkland, a night’s accommodations at the Olive 8 Hotel in Seattle, a $150 gift certificate to Schmetzer’s Sporthaus, a choice of any Microsoft software, and an indoor soccer party package at Arena Sports.
The event itself was a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament and included free food, beer, and wine, and entry into the tournament. Additionally, kid care was available for a nominal cost, so participating families were all able to have fun with age-appropriate activities. This year also added a 5-item silent auction for which the items ranged from a day at Sounder’s training with Director of Coaching Erik Oman to a week’s stay at a cabin on Lake Kachess in the Cascade Mountains.
If you were unable to attend this year’s event, but would still like to contribute to the Emerald City FC scholarship fund, please contact club bookkeeper, Amy Wakeman, at (206) 713-4656 or amy.wakeman@emeraldcityfc.org to donate.
