Emerald City FC U19 mens college summer season success

Congratulations to the Emerald City FC U19 team on their successful summer season. The team competed in the 1st Division Men's league of the Greater Seattle Soccer League. ECFC U19 ended the season tied for first place, as well as having the best defensive record in the division with only 6 goals scored against!

Kudos goes to coaches Matthew Olson and Alex Jessup for being generous of their time and knowledge with the players this summer.  After the league season ended the coaches continued to provide training for the team for a few more weeks. The players found the experience to be fun and very educational as they head into the pre-season with their respective college programs.

Both coaches and players look forward to repeating the experience again next summer.

Bobby Howe and Frank Barton honored at Sounders FC game

(July 16th 2011) At halftime today at the Sounders v Rapids game, former NASL Sounders and current ECFC coaches, Frank Barton and Bobby Howe,  were among those honored for the 30-year anniversary of Seattle winning the Trans-Atlantic Challenge Cup. Players and coaches from Emerald City FC looked on with pride as Bobby and Frank along with their NASL team mates were honored in front of the whole city. Congratulations Bobby and Frank!!

What was the Trans-Atlantic Challenge Cup?
The NASL Trans-Atlantic Challenge Cup was in existence for only 5 season. In the 1981 tournament Celtic were a late replacement for Donetsk Shakhtyor, the Soviet team that withdrew because New York Cosmos intended to field a South African (this was in the days of apartheid). Seattle Sounders were the victors in the 1981 tournament that Celtic played in. Here is a full list of the winners - 1980 New York Cosmos 1981 Seattle Sounders 1982 Chicago Sting 1983 New York Cosmos 1984 New York Cosmos.

Former Danish ECFC players visit Seattle

(July 7th 2011) - Two former Emerald City FC players visited Seattle this week from their home in Denmark. Kristoffer (on the right) and Andreas Pallesen played for Emerald City FC in the 2003-04 season. During their one year visit to the U.S. they remember their time will the club fondly, both were leading scorers on their respective teams. Andreas is currently finishing High School back home in Denmark, while Kristoffer has earned a professional contract in the Danish League with Hobro IK. He credits Emerald City for transforming him from a goalkeeper to an attacking player and looks forward to his upcoming season with his club in Denmark. This week they both trained with the current M93 Green team and were impressed by the level of play and commitment of the players!
