Emerald City FC WPSL team win inaugural match against Eugene Metro FC
Youtube video courtesy GoalWA and Photos by Wilson Tsoi
The historic first goal for our ECFC WPSL Team came in the 23rd minute when Faustine Dufka (University of Washington) played a ball in to Megan Chapin (Western Washington) who slotted home the game winning goal. The half ended 1-0 with our ECFC team beginning to show more of the dominant play that would be the pattern for the second half.
While each team managed 6 shots in the first half, Eugene Metro FC would only find two more opportunities at goal in the second half. Emerald City FC, on the other hand, had 11 shots in the second half and played most of the half in the attacking end. Dominance in the central midfield by Emerald City’s Casey Berrier (Loyola University) and Lindsay Bos (University of Washington) proved to be key in the second half. The second goal for our ECFC Team came in the 57th minute on a beautiful combination of passes that was finished by Taylor Culver (College of Idaho) on her first touch after entering the game as a substitute. Megan Chapin had the assist on Culver’s goal. Liz Ruiz (Boise State) posted the shutout in goal for Emerald City FC with 5 saves.
Thank you to our Emerald City F95 team who took tickets, painted faces, chased balls and helped to make it a great event! Thanks also goes to our Emerald City F01 team and to the HPFC U11 Girls team who escorted the WPSL Players onto the field for the opening introductions and who played in a half time exhibition friendly.
Emerald City FC WPSL’s next home game is against the Portland Timbers Saturday, June 2 at 3:00pm at Interbay Stadium.

Brent Bishop, father of Emerald City FC player Reed, preparing to ascend Mount Everest
M97 player Reed Bishop’s family has a long history with Mount Everest. His grandfather led one of the first US expeditions to summit the mountain. Today Reed’s father is attempting to relive that historical ascent of the West Ridge with a group of climbers supported by Eddie Bauer. Click here for more details.
Emerald City FC is extremely grateful that Reed’s dad took the time to take a picture with an ECFC flag set on a prayer stone at base camp and to send the club this message …
“Emerald City FC, Greetings from Everest Base Camp. Our team is resting at BC before our next rotation up high on the West Ridge. Conditions prove more difficult than expected, with every step is earned with effort and a bit of suffering. Outstanding job on an excellent season and good luck this late spring. Keep the throttle down. Brent — at Everest Base Camp.”
The climbs of the Eddie Bauer teams are being covered by Outside Magazine and various blogs on site, here’s some audio that Reed’s mom, Kim, kindly posted http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.outsideonline.com%2Ffeatured-videos%2Fadventure-videos%2Fclimbing%2FEverest-Update-From-Jake-Norton.html&h=2AQE5rSvP

This summer, from June 29-July 7, the Emerald City FC M99 Green team coached by Matthew Olson and Alex Jessup will embark on a soccer adventure of a lifetime to Spain, home of the World Cup Champions! While in Spain, the team will play in the Copa Catalunya tournament which takes place near Barcelona and will feature clubs from all over the world representing more than 20 countries. The team will also tour the Nou Camp stadium, home of FC Barcelona and Lionel Mess, as well as other famous sights in the Barcelona area. The tour is being organized through Premier International Tours. We’d love to give more ECFC teams this experience. Matthew Olson’s visit to the storied training grounds of Ajax and KNVB
(May 8, 2012) In early March, I had the exciting opportunity with a coaching tour group to spend a week observing soccer trainings and lectures from some of the most esteemed soccer clubs in Holland and Belgium: AJAX Amsterdam, the KNVB (Dutch Football Association), FC Brussels and FC Anderlecht. It was a great experience for the American coaching contingent to observe the renowned youth team trainings at AJAX.
Their training facilities were a myriad of activity as we observed teams from U10 to U19. It was clear why, for being a smaller club (compared to Barcelona and Manchester United) they have been able to produce such dynamic and wonderful players (the list is long) who have played major roles for AJAX and then with several clubs worldwide not to mention the Dutch national teams ….
